2 held for bringing money for Geelani

SRINAGAR: Continuing the search for further incriminating evidence against Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (Pota) two days ago, the income-tax department and the J&K police on Monday conducted joint raids on some banks here to locate his accounts.
Also, on Tuesday, the J&K police arrested two persons who had allegedly brought funds for Geelani in the recent past.
The arrested have been identified as Farooq Ahmad, former deputy secretary, J&K public service commission, and Mohd Maqbool, an employee of the power development department. "The duo had gone to Haj pilgrimage this year, and on return from Jeddah, handed over dollars to Geelani," said official sources.
According to the sources, the money was given by Nazir Ahmad Qureshi, leader of the World Awami Muslim Youth, and Geelani had, thereafter, allegedly given the money to various militant outfits. "More arrests are expected in this connection," said an official. On the joint raids, IGP K Rajendra Kumar, however, declined to name the branches of the banks which were searched.
Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Bank Mohammad Yousf Khan said the I-T officials visited the Barzullah branch of the bank in the outskirts of Srinagar seeking details of some accounts. "They were also inquiring about a locker belonging to Geelani and I believe they have sealed it," Khan said.
Two other banks including the Oriental Bank of Commerce were also searched but no details were available.
Sources said I-T officials had also opened a locker in one of the banks.
Police on Monday claimed to have seized classified documents relating to deployment of Army and paramilitary forces in the state from Geelani’s residence.
A case of violation of the Official Secrets Act has already been filed against Geelani.
